Generator Rex: On Thin Ice

PART 3

      "Aurora, have you found Rex?" Holiday asked. Aurora was trotting through the snow.
      "Not yet, but I've got his scent. Why do you ask?"
      "There's a blizzard coming." Aurora looked up at the grey sky. The cold wind blew flurries of snow around her.
      "I've noticed. I'll try to find Rex before it hits." Aurora quickened her pace. She stopped when the clouds parted, allowing the sun to send beams of light to the chilled reptile. Aurora raised her head towards the warmth. She spread her wings and fanned out her ears. But it was short-lived. The wind pushed the clouds back, and the sun disappeared. "Well, that was nice while it lasted." She held her nose in the air, sniffing. After finding the trail again, she took off like a bullet.

      Rex could hardly sleep, partially because of the noise being made from Plisskin trying to get the power back. The other part was knowing the EVO was still out there. Rex sighed and sat up. He wrapped his arms around himself, trying to keep warm. He looked at the three agents working on the jet.
      "Can you guys at least get the heater working?"
      "There aren't any heaters." Plisskin said without looking up. Rex gave him a "Seriously?" look, then gazed at the floor. He groaned, stood up, and went to the open hatch. He leaned against the doorway, staring at the vast white plain.
      "Well, I guess it could be worse." Suddenly, there was a loud sound that echoed through the ice like thunder, and the jet shook.
      "What the-" Roberts began. The next thing they knew, the ground was cracking and buckling around the jet, revealing the water underneath.
      "Everybody out now!" Rex shouted. Without question, the agents jumped out of the sinking aircraft. They ran a few feet, then stopped to watch the jumpjet get swallowed by the icy water.
      "It just got worse." Roberts commented. Rex flung his arms into the air.
      "Aw man! How are we supposed to get help now?" There was more thunderous cracking, and more ice broke away.
      "Go go go!" Mullins shouted as they ran. Rex was behind the others, his tiredness making him sluggish. They finally reached solid ground. Rex was almost there when he was thrown into the air by the flipping ice plates. He managed to tuck and roll, and he shouted at the pain in his arm. Ray helped him up.
      "You OK?" Rex nodded.
      "Wait, where's the EVO?" Roberts asked. Everyone gazed towards the water.
      "Come on, we need to find shelter." That's when the blizzard hit.

      Rex and the other four agents had been trudging through knee-deep snow for hours, the wind whipping snow around, stinging their faces. Mullins stopped.
      "Gah, it's useless! We're going to freeze before we find anything!" he shouted over the wind. He took a few more steps, and a spiked tentacle rose from the snow and wrapped around him. The EVO rose like a cobra from the snow, roaring.
      "Found something!" Rex joked. He activated the Rex Ride, brought out the battering ram, and sped towards the EVO. He nailed it. It dropped Mullins and fell. The agents pulled out their guns, ready to fire. The EVO began to get up, but collapsed and didn't move.
      "Come on, let's go before it wakes up." Ray said. They took off, lost in the white nothingness.

      Cold, exhausted, and hungry, they struggled to keep on their feet. Rex was the slowest. He finally fell, and didn't get up. He was too tired. Roberts, Ray, Mullins, and Plisskin turned around and went back. Mullins pulled the teenager up and put Rex's arm over his shoulder. Roberts helped, and they continued walking in the blistering cold. Rex began to black out. The last thing he saw was a large shadow in the fogginess of the snowstorm.
